Amco Vintage Citrus Squeezer

This is the one you want5
This is THE citrus juicer. My wife's grandmother passed a real vintage one of these on to us and no juicer out there can match the ease, speed and power of this juicer. The rounded squeezers take much more effort and never get all this juice. This one squeezes the citrus half from the side which makes much more sense. Using simple leverage where it counts the most a simple squeeze will instantly get all the juice completely out of half a lemon, lime, orange, grapefruit, etc.

We used to live in Florida and had tons of grapefruit from trees in our yard. I could squeeze bushels of grapefruit in an hour with this manual squeezer with no muscle fatigue, no seeds and minimal pulp. This works as fast, if not faster, than motorized juicers (for citrus, at least).

If this has not yet been made available through Amazon again, what are you waiting for. This is simply the best juicer available for citrus.

Simply the best juicer!5
My grandmother used to have a juicer just like this one and I have never seen one in stores but always remember how good it worked. I was very excited to find this juicer on Amazon, the trouble is that it's listed as a "squeezer" instead of juicer so it was a bit hard to find.

This juicer gets all the juice out of your citrus and does it with ease. I have had several other crappy hand held juicers that either break or the pins fall out. Hopefully this will be the last juicer I need to buy.

I would argue that this works just as good as the $200 pro juicers at about a 1/15 the price!

Quick and easy5
Cut your fruit in half, put in the juicer, push down on the top handle, pick up by the handles, and pour already-strained juice out the spout on the side. The strainer easily comes out, and the enamel coating makes washing a breeze. It doesn't get much quicker or easier!

Great Juicer-Great Price5
I don't think you can find a better, easier to use citrus juicer at any price. It's gone up a couple of bucks since I bought mine, but it is still the best deal available without question.

It's fast, stable on the counter, converts to a serving pitcher when you're done juicing, and it's absolutely a cinch to clean up. I can't think of anything Proctor Silex could do to improve this product.

If you're in the market for a citrus juicer (and fresh-squeezed is so far superior to anything you can buy in the grocery store) you can't do better than this one. Buy it.

can't take the pressure1
after breaking it (like everyone else) i opened it up and found the problem. at the bottom of the shaft is a thin plastic extension that pushes down on a metal plate when you push down on the juicer. this plate then touches another plate to complete the circuit and start the motor. a little too much downward force will break that little plastic extension off the main shaft, so the plates are never made to touch. if the main shaft weren't so cheaply made, this juicer would be great. as is, it is useless. they should at least offer a replacement part, but I can't find one. also, the power cord could be longer.

I love it!5
I am actually purchasing this juicer for my parents because I love mine so much! It is easy to clean (all of the parts are detachable) and works really well at extracting all of the juice. Try it with tangerines! :)

Great Juicer!5
I bought this exact model of juicer two years ago and have been very satisfied with the juicing results. My pulp comes out very dry and we get a lot of juice out of each fruit or vegetable. I've juiced spinach, beet greens and chard. Today I juiced wheat grass for the first time which worked, but was not entirely what I expected: it came out really thick. Perhaps there's a trick for juicing wheatgrass I'm not aware of. However, I'm undeterred and will try again tomorrow.

Overall: this machine is really great. I'm super happy with it and purchase it all over again.

No support when ages1
I discovered today that Champion DOES NOT SUPPORT older models. They still appear to be identical but you can't get replacement blades. If you are purchasing now and think you can get a replacement when needed...think again.

If you don't care about future support then it's a great machine.

Metrokane Chef's Juicer
From Metrokane

'Professional Model'

  • Amazon Sales Rank: #202696 in Kitchen & Housewares
  • Brand: Metrokane
  • Model: 1500
  • Dimensions: 6.90" h x 7.90" w x 16.40" l, 7.00 pounds

As attractive as it is professionally functional, this chrome juicer generates powerful pressure to quickly squeeze every drop of juice out of oranges, grapefruits, lemons, and limes. And it extracts sweet juice without scraping bitter oil from the fruits' skins, as electric juicers often do. Its rack-and-pinion gear system and bar handle generate pressure with little effort, and the spring-action handle snaps back automatically for convenience and speed. For stability, there's a grip for the left hand while the right hand pulls down the handle. Accompanying the juicer is a 2-cup, mirror-finish, stainless-steel juice cup with a removable strainer/cone for easy cleanup. The juicer measures 17 inches high, 5-1/2 inches wide, and 7 inches deep, and its moving parts carry a lifetime warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

Editor's Choice:Our choice for best citrus juicer under $100, Metrokane's Chef's Juicer is a beautiful piece of equipment, and not so large (17 inches high, 5-1/2 inches wide, and 7 inches deep) that it wouldn't fit on almost any kitchen counter. And it should be displayed, as it's fairly elegant, with a shining chrome finish. But the real plus is in the final product--the juice.

Cheap metal2
When I first got the juicer, I absolutely loved it! Finally, fresh O.J.! Worked well, was able to juices 10-20 lbs. of oranges in minutes. However, I did get the feeling there was still plenty more left in the halves. Then one day the gears felt "sticky", and then on one more pull of the arm the metal body just cracked and broke! Right where the arm attaches to the body it just cracked apart. This was not mechanical. it was just poor quality.

Metrokane Chef's Juicer- Fast & Easy! Solidly built!5
I have the Metrokane Chef's Juicer (called only the "Spa Juicer" at the Metrokane site). It is Fast & Easy! It must have
great pressure as it really squeezes oranges, lemons and small grapefruits thoroughly! The cup is polished stainless steel,
as is the remaining mechanism (not including the strainer-dome and the top-dome) making clean up easy. I drink fresh
squeezed Florida juiced oranges EVERY morning for the past two years. It is the best way to start my day off. I LOVE IT

and I am buying another for my sister so there will be one there when I am there for my frequent visits! Buy this particular
model if: (1)- you want to be SURE you get all of the juice out of your fruit, (2)- If you have (like I do) way too many electric
gadgets. This mechanism takes up very little counter space. Because it is shiny and very good looking, it is the only thing
on my counter top in addition to my coffee maker. Solidly built! No breakable parts. (This is not the spring loaded arm
model).

I also have an electric juicer, but I only use it for "non citrus" fruits and veggies. I used to use a reamer, but this is faster,
cleaner and more efficient.

The top dome's interior will pit if not cleaned immediately, made of different metal (? or just unpolished?)...There are more "professional" models
out there from Metrokane. I believe the higher priced Metrokane models have a spring mechanism to spring the arm back
in position. I think the extra spring is an unnecessary addition and just gives you something to worry about breaking!...

Far from being "professional"1
Nice looking chrome gadget but we found it to perform poorly. The holding glass is small and tilted very easily. The halves stucked to the cup on the lever. You have to remove the fruit halves with your fingers (very impractical and messy). The cranker does not produce enough leveler pressure often leaving plenty of juice in the halves, no matter how hard you push. If you push to hard the stability of the juicer is not good. There are no suction feet to hold the machine in place. Can't recommend it. Far from being a so call "professional" equipment.

Waring Pro Jex-328 Professional Juice Extractor Stainless Steel - Factory Refurbished
From Waring

Waring Pro JEX-328, Ideal for today's fast and healthy lifestyles, the Health™ Juice Extractor is engineered to make the process easy. More juice is extracted from less produce, leaving only dry pulp in the ejector. An extra wide feed tube minimizes preparation time, and the convenient On/Off toggle switch is simple to operate. Brushed stainless steel housing and juice collector. Removable stainless parts are dishwasher safe.

Great juicer for the price3
I bought the Waring Pro Professional Juice Extractor JEX328 to use when I visit the USA. I originally wanted to buy L'Equip Mini Pulp Ejector Juicer, an excellent juicer that I use at home in the UK, but it was a bit pricey so I found a reconditioned Waring at a very good price on the internet. (approx. $25).

Pros: Sturdy / easy to use / comes with spout cleaner and its own jug which the L'Equip does not

Cons: Bit noisy / quite large and cumbersome / takes longer to clean than the L'Equip / lower yield than the L'Equip and some chunks of fruit and vegetables found in waste basket / pusher tends to stick sometimes

Although I definitely notice a difference between the two machines, I enjoy using the Waring, and consider it a very good juicer for the price I paid.

I love my juicer5
I've been using this model of juicer for six years. Even though I have other machines I keep coming back to the waring. When it burns up or breaks it is affordable to replace. I teach others how to begin juicing and this is always the machine I give to my friends. I have never had to pay more than $49.95 for a machine and generally get two years use out of a unit before it blows up. Does it have faults; yes. Is it a good little machine: yes.

EXCELLENT JUICER5
I have had my factory reconditioned juicer for 3 years. Still going strong. If it burns out tomorrow, I will buy another.

No problems with it at all. Very dry pulp left in container so I know that I am getting maximum juice from fruit and vegetables. Excellent buy.

great juice4
This is a nice product - it's heavier & larger than I would have expected, but it is simple to use.

It juices pretty much everything, and the pulp that is left over is really quite dry - more so than a lot of the centrifugal juicers I have used.

I went for this model over some of the others because I wanted something that was a little more multipurpose. So far I have made several batches of pasta with it - really rather good too!

Cleaning is straightforward, there's not that many nooks & crannies to get worked up about, the screen cleans easily with any soft brush, the toothbrush supplied is good enough.

In all there's the outer housing for the auger, the auger itself, the screen and the end cap & nozzle. These parts have all made it through the dishwasher - the screen is the only piece you really need to do by hand... the other bits all seem to come perfectly clean with a good rinse in hot water (after juicing, anyway).

The auger does it's job nicely, the motor seems to be suitably powerful.

About as loud as a regular food processor.

The only thing I would say is that perhaps the buttons should be sealed.

The instruction manual is simplistic, but there are a wealth of recipes available elsewhere.

A true wheat grass juicer that does many other things5
I went into major "resarch mode" when looking for a wheat grass juicer. I discovered that other juicers shouldn't be used for wheat grass because their fast speed made for doing other juices means that oxygen enters the wheat grass which breaks down the very properties you drink wheat grass for.

but other wheat grass juicers that were the right speed could not do other thigns or other juicers, or cost an arm and a leg as a professional juicer.

This was suggested to me by a restaurant that does wheatgrass and, I concur, it's a real winner. I have made pasta with it and fruit juice too and it's a fun machine...but whereas other juicers broke down the wheatgrass so it lost its potency, this gives me the same quality of that I used to purchase at a juicer place, for way less in the long run.

We grow wheat grass in a long canister that's gorgeous on the center of our table and just clip it as needed.

better than any energy drink on the planet and no additives or preservaties and this one does it so it works!

Black & Decker CJ525 CitrusMate Plus Citrus Juicer
From Black & Decker

This large-capacity juicer lets you squeeze a whole liter of juice directly into a refrigerator-ready serving pitcher for fresh, cold juice anytime.

  • Amazon Sales Rank: #907 in Kitchen & Housewares
  • Color: Black,Orange
  • Brand: Black & Decker
  • Model: CJ525
  • Dimensions: 6.90" h x 6.90" w x 9.50" l, 1.60 pounds

With a capacity of more than a quart (34 ounces), this electric juicer can prepare family-size portions with little operator effort. Large and small cones fit on the reamer to accommodate different-size fruits. The reamer automatically reverses itself to extract the maximum amount of juice, while a stirrer presses juice from the pulp in the strainer. Finally, there's an adjustable control that regulates how much pulp goes into the juice, a feature margarita fanciers will welcome. For storage, the cord wraps in a slot around the base, and a cover protects against dust. Hand wash this juicer in warm soapy water. --Fred Brack

Editor's Choice:A great first juicer, or a good juicer for someone who doesn't juice every day, Black & Decker's CitrusMate Plus citrus juicer is our choice for best citrus juicer under $50. It will fit into every budget and still deliver lots of fresh juice. This juicer is extremely easy to use, as you just install the cone you want to use (it comes with two cones, making it adaptable for different sizes of fruit), plug it in, and press the fruit down into the cone. Then it goes to work automatically.

wonderfully easy to use4
most other juicers will tire out your wrists long before you have enough juice for a cup, but not this one. using it couldn't be easier- cut the oranges in half, hold one half over the top, and it spins around, and your juice ends up in the little pitcher on the bottom. when you have enough (it has handy markings on the sides of the pitcher for measuring), twist off the pitcher & pour it out.

because the motor is in the seperate base that doesn't get any juice on it, washing it is super easy- just pop off the juicer piece, the pulp straining top, and the pitcher and wash them in your dishwasher or sink.

Florida Girl with Citrus Trees Approved!5
This juicer is awesome. It is light and small in size which makes it not only easy to store but makes me willing use it all the time - no dread of lugging out some huge, heavy contraption. I live in South Florida and have a yard full of grapefruit, orange and key lime trees - this juicer does them all like a champ. With the two sizes of the juicing cone, one juicer takes care of all of my citrus. The strainer pops apart very easily and is a snap to clean with running water alone! You do not need to apply much pressure when using the juicer which allows you to juice many fruit in a row since your arm doesn't get tired. I love the adjustable pulp strainer - my husband likes lots of pulp, I like a little, and some friends just like the juice alone - no problem with this little workhorse. I also love that it gets all the juice out of the fruit - the fruit is dry after going on top of this machine! The juice flows right into the pitcher which makes it perfect for pouring right into your glass or into any other container - pitchers, plastic zip top bags, etc. I had looked and looked for a good juicer and most were expensive, bulky, hard to clean, etc. but not this great machine. I was skeptical since it is so cheap, but thought, "Well, what do I have to lose since I'm not spending much on it?" - now I'm in love with it. I'm such a fan that I just bought a second one to take to our vacation house!

Life-Enhancing Health-wise and in Ease of Use5
I was in the appliance section of the store and I was trying to decide between the citrusmate and one that was only 5 dollars cheaper.
And then I saw that the CitrusMate has a separate smaller cone for lemons and lime, and since I was buying this thing to make my life a little bit easier while on the Master Cleanse diet/fast (a lemon and water concoction for 14 days), it was a given.

This is my first juicer, so I don't have a comparison for you, sorry, but I can definitely recommend it as an appliance just by itself. Very efficient in shredding the citrus fruit! It rotates both ways, to get the juice out efficiently. And the clean-up is a breeze.

After this lemonade fast is over, my diet will only be water and juice as far as beverages go, and this thing will be so much easier to use than my Jack la lanne juicing machine, when I just simply want a glass of fresh orange juice!

Breville BJE510XL Ikon 900-Watt Variable-Speed Juice Extractor
From Breville

Breville Ikon Multi-Speed Juice Fountain is 900 watts. It has a 5 speed high speed motor that features a built-in electronic smart chip that increases power to the cutting disc under heavy loads. As a result, the filter extracts more juice and can make an 8 ounce glass in just 5 seconds. The 3" feed tube allows for the easy and efficient processing of whole fruits and vegetables, without pre-cutting, slicing or peeling. It is uniquely positioned directly over the center of the cutting disc for better balance and consistent results. The 5 speed settings make the Ikon Juice Fountain the most versatile juice extractor available. The lower speeds are for softer fruits and leafy green vegetables. The higher speeds maximize extraction from dense foods such as apples and carrots.

Housed in attractive stainless steel, this 900-watt juice extractor features a unique five-speed smart juicing system. Its powerful motor comes with a built-in electronic smart chip that increases power to the cutting disc under heavy loads. As a result, the filter extracts more juice and can make an 8-ounce glass of juice in just five seconds. Speeds range from 6500 rpm for softer fruits and leafy greens like cantaloupe or spinach, to 12500 rpm for maximum extraction from denser foods such as apples or beets. The unit's 3-inch circular feed tube makes it easy to process whole fruits and vegetables, without pre-cutting, slicing, or peeling, plus the feed tube sits uniquely positioned directly over the center of the cutting disc for better balance and consistent results. The juice extractor also provides a stainless-steel micromesh filter and cutters, engineering-grade polymers, a backlit control panel, and dishwasher-safe parts for quick cleanup. Accessories include a 1-liter juice jug and froth separator, a detachable spout for juicing directly in to a glass, and a cleaning brush. The juice extractor measures 16-4/5 by 15-1/2 by 10-1/4 inches and carries a one-year limited warranty.

well built juicer5
Breville BJE510 was nominated Australian Design Award and it deserves it indeed.
Built very well with outstanding attention to detail, solid stainless steel feed chute, thick and mirror finished acrylic parts that do not have difficult to wash nooks. Juicing carrots left no stains and washing with paper towel and few drops of mild detergent took about 3 minutes for acrylic parts and 5 minutes for the basket with help of soft brush. Locking bar is solid metal with safety - motor will not start if bar is not raised to lock position to prevent any accidental startup. Speed dial has solid feel and digital info display is very cool looking. After choosing speed the power requirement is automatically adjusting according to load. Unit is slightly heavy yet within a reason. Cutter assembly has simple yet solid lock and is easy to remove - no more pulling apart stuck cutter basket and motor base wondering when you are finally going to break it. Pulp from veggies comes out with little moisture and not dripping wet, so efficiency appears to be quite good. Amazon shipping came in double carton and manufacturer also uses very thick padding therefore no problem with shipping and no damage of any kind. In one sentence, this juicer is practically designed, works very well and looks good.

The "Lexus" of juicers5
We owned a refurbished Waring JEX328 juicer for about two years and my wife used it to make juice for our children and me almost every day. It held up fairly well and we paid almost nothing for it at the time (around 30 bucks, I think), but it finally cratered a couple of weeks ago. We debated for a while whether or not to replace it with this Breville model or the Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Pro. We finally decided on this one because it had so many five star ratings and because it is an appliance we use so often, thus we thought it made sense to get the best one we could find, even with its steeper price. While I can't compare it to the Hamilton Beach model, I can compare it to the Waring model, and it beats the Waring model hands down.

As soon as you unpack the Breville you know you have a top quality piece of equipment. It does an outstanding job at juice extraction (the pulp is dryer than what the Waring produced, and the Waring actually did pretty well) and the clean-up is far easier. When cleaning the Waring, you had pulp caked up within the machine itself and it was a pain to clean it out, partially becaused it had a higher moisture content but also simply because of all of the nooks and crannies in this catchment section of the juicer. Although this section detached, it was still difficult to clean nonetheless . The Breville puts the pulp in a separate container off to the side, and as others have mentioned, if you line it with a plastic bag there is nothing to it. The only "pain" is cleaing the filter device, which is going to be difficult with any juicer you buy. The brush they provide does make this a little easier, however.

Now for the biggest difference: the noise produced when the machine is turned on. With the Waring, you had to pause the television, stop talking, cover your ears, and hope the neighbors didn't phone the cops on you for disturbing the peace. The Breville is FAR quieter. Don't get me wrong, it is not "whisper quiet" or anything like that, but it probably makes one third of the noise the Waring did.

Is it worth the higher price as compared to the Waring or Hamilton Beach? Hard to say. Like I mentioned, we got the Waring for practically nothing and it was a good introductory machine for us for juicing, but SO LOUD!

I can't really find any flaws with the Breville at all (we have run it for about a week now). Considering, however, that it costs almost three times what you can get the Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Pro for (I would chose this one over the Waring purely from my experience with it and from reading the reviews for the Hamilton), whether or not you want to go with this "ultra juicer" version boils down to sheer personal preference. How often you will run it and what variety of recipies you might want to put through it should probably be your driving factors, along side the price difference, of course. The main differences I found with the Breville as compared to the Hamilton were a slightly higher wattage (900 versus 800) and the variable speeds instead of only one, single speed. From our perspective, though, we have had no regrets in spending the extra cash for this top model.

EDIT 08/05/08: Just thought I would mention that since this review we bought the Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Pro as a gift for my wife's mother, so we had a chance to directly compare it to the Breville. It did a good job, but it was louder and not nearly as solidly built as the Breville. After this comparision, we are even more satisfied with our decision to spend a bit extra and get this model. The varible speed on the Breville is something you will definitely miss should you go back to a model that does not have this feature. Hope this helps!

Best Juicer, worth every penny5
I look forward to using this juicer every day. I used to own a more expensive juicer but cleaning it was such a pain I stopped juicing and gave it away. After doing tons of research I settled on the Ikon Juicer which is just perfect. My biggest concern was cleaning. It takes about 10-15 minutes to clean by hand but you can rinse the parts and just put it in the dishwasher. The pulp comes out dry so all the juice is extracted pretty much. I disagree with the complaint that people have that the juicer is too loud. It's not that bad actually. The design is very cool looking compared to other juicers. I've used it for about 2 weeks and made a variety of juices and I see and feel the difference in myself. Lets face it, if you're single, cooking and cleaning are not at the top of your list. The Ikon lets you get all the nutrients from fruits and vegetables in their purest form immediately without the headache of cooking and cleaning. If you are serious about your health, spend the money and buy the Breville Ikon Juicer. You won't regret it.

problems3
It is a large citrus squeezer, I like that. But the sqeezer doesn't fit over the cup properly. I find that annoying. I am also unhappy that this juicer is not dishwasher safe. The color of the finish seems artificial - I guess that isn't stainless steel. I am a no nonsense person; I don't need tools to be shiny, just functional and durable. Therefore not happy with this product.
